Caprina and the Golden Nectar Spell
Chapter 1: Wings of Silence

Caprina's antennae twitched as she calibrated the photon-distiller, her chitinous fingers dancing across the holographic interface. The Neon Botanical Gardens hummed outside her brewery windows, bioluminescent orchids casting purple shadows across rows of crystalline honey vats. She'd been awake for thirty-six hours perfecting her latest creation: midnight jasmine honey infused with quantum nectar.
"Caprina! Help!"
Zephyr tumbled through the open window, his magnificent wings—normally a cascade of shimmering blues and purples—hung limp and colorless against his body. He crashed onto her workbench, scattering pollen samples.
Caprina's wings buzzed instinctively as she caught him. "What happened?"
"The smog-storm near the Industrial Sector," Zephyr wheezed, his usual cheerfulness replaced by trembling fear. "Chemical discharge. My wings... they won't work anymore."
Caprina's multifaceted eyes analyzed the damage. Microscopic burn patterns. Cellular degradation. Her mind raced through possibilities, remembering the rigid protocols from her old hive—protocols that never accounted for creativity, only efficiency.
"There's a formula," she muttered, pulling up ancient texts on her wrist-screen. "The Golden Nectar Spell. My grandmother mentioned it once before I left the hive. But it requires ingredients I've never combined before."
"You can do this," Zephyr whispered.
Caprina grabbed her tool belt, adjusting the miniature welding torch. Then her screen flickered. A message: *Chemical storm expanding. Gardens closing in two hours.*
Two hours to gather ingredients from a garden about to seal itself. Her wings trembled.
