The Mysterious Giggling in the Moonlight

Antony climbed through the eucalyptus branches, his fluffy tail swishing as he searched for the perfect spot to surprise his friends. The moonlight painted silver stripes across the leaves. He loved making others laugh—it was his favorite thing in the whole grove.

Suddenly, a strange sound echoed through the trees. "Hee-hee-hee-hee!" It bounced from shadow to shadow, high-pitched and eerie.

Antony's ears perked up. His dark button eyes grew wide. Below him, rabbits scattered into their burrows. A possum family scurried away, their tails trembling.

"What was that?" squeaked a field mouse, diving under a root.

The giggling came again, louder this time. "Hee-hee-hee-hee!" It seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at once.

Antony gripped his branch tighter. His friends were frightened. Someone needed to be brave. But as the mysterious laughter rang out a third time, even Antony felt his heart thump faster. The sound was getting closer.
