Chapter 1: The Impossible Plants

Chapter 1: The Impossible Plants

Igor's eyebrow shot up the moment he spotted them. Three peculiar stalks, taller than the surrounding tomatoes, sprouted from the garden's forgotten northeast corner—a plot nobody had touched in months.

"Mr. Igor! Look at these!" Kai Patel dropped his watering can, braids swinging as he sprinted toward the mystery plants. His twin sister Zara matched his pace, her short hair catching morning sunlight.

Igor knelt beside the specimens, his pale scalp gleaming as he tilted his head. The leaves displayed an intricate silver pattern he'd never encountered in forty years of teaching botany. His fingers traced the air above them—not touching, just observing.

"They weren't here yesterday," Zara whispered, her dark eyes wide. "We checked this corner. Remember, Kai? It was empty."

"Impossible," Kai muttered, pulling out his notebook. "Plants don't grow that fast."

Igor's lips pressed into a thin line. He recognized the methodical spark in Kai's expression, the intuitive wonder in Zara's stance. His purple hoodie rustled as he shifted, examining the soil.

"Let's document everything," Igor said quietly. "Height, leaf structure, soil conditions."

By noon, they'd measured, photographed, and sketched. Igor cross-referenced his field guides—nothing matched.

Then Zara gasped. "Mr. Igor... there are five plants now."

Igor's warm brown eyes narrowed. Where three stalks had stood that morning, five now reached skyward. The impossible had become incomprehensible.
