Milo Sorts Cookies For Hungry Friends

Milo knelt in the damp moss of the woods behind his new house, his sandy brown hair falling across his forehead as he examined a peculiar wooden crate. Moving to this town last year had been scary, but his grandmother's advice always echoed in his mind: every new place is just a map waiting to be drawn. He adjusted the brass compass hanging from his leather cord and pushed the crate's heavy lid open. "Whoa," Milo breathed. Inside sat a single, massive chocolate chip cookie, as big as a bicycle tire! But he wasn't alone. A rapid ch-ch-ch-ch sounded above him. Four forest squirrels dropped from the oak branches, their noses twitching. The leader, a squirrel with a nicked ear, stepped forward. "Squeak-squeak-chatter!" it demanded, pointing a tiny paw at the giant treat. "You want some?" Milo asked, his hazel eyes widening with a warm smile. "I can share!" But as the other three squirrels crowded around, chattering aggressively at each other, Milo's smile faded. He couldn't just hand the giant cookie to the leader. He had to feed all four of his waiting friends fairly, which meant he needed to figure out how to divide this massive treat.
