The Easter Egg Code Nobody Can Crack
The Symbols That Don't Belong
Cata methodically worked through the morning routine—three bites of tender clover leaf, a careful inspection of the garden's dew patterns, then up to the highest twig to survey the day ahead. Easter morning had transformed the overgrown garden into a festival of pastels. Ribbons fluttered from branches. Children's laughter echoed from the library courtyard beyond the hedge.
"Seventeen eggs hidden so far," Cata observed to no one in particular, amber eyes tracking a parent tucking a pink egg behind the sundial. "All following the standard pattern: perimeter first, then inward spiral."
But then Cata's antennae twitched. Something was different.
Near the base of the old oak—where the wise moth had once shared stories from library books—sat an egg unlike any other. Deep violet, yes, but covered in symbols. Not painted decorations. Actual symbols: a spiral, three dots, a crescent, intersecting lines. Cata's prolegs gripped the bark tighter as the caterpillar descended for a closer look.
More unusual eggs emerged from hiding spots as the hunt began. A silver one with geometric patterns. A copper egg marked with constellation-like dots. Each bore symbols that seemed almost... familiar. Like the markings on Cata's own back, but arranged differently.
The children gathered, confused. "These aren't on any map!"
"What do the symbols mean?"
Their Easter hunt had stopped before it started. Parents exchanged worried glances. Someone had replaced all the regular eggs with these coded ones, and nobody knew why.
