The Garden Project Mom Never Finished
The Forgotten Shed
Anna pushed open the creaky door of the old garden shed behind their house. Dust motes danced in the morning light streaming through the cobwebbed window. "What's in here?" she'd asked Dad at breakfast, and he'd smiled sadly. "Your mother's old garden things. Haven't touched it in years."
Her bright blue eyes widened as she stepped inside. Colorful ceramic pots lined the shelves—sky blue, sunshine yellow, rose pink. A wooden crate sat on the workbench, filled with paper seed packets: zinnias, marigolds, sunflowers. Then she spotted it: a leather notebook tucked between two empty planters.
Anna opened it carefully. Every page burst with drawings—flowers sketched in pencil, some colored with watercolors. Dates marked each one: three springs ago, the year before her little brother was born. The last page showed a garden layout, only half-colored, with a note in Mom's handwriting: "For Mother's Day—my dream garden."
She ran her fingers over the unfinished drawing. Mom had never mentioned this. The shed suddenly felt different—not forgotten, but waiting.
